The main living accommodation is on the top floor with superb sea views from the dining and living areas. The design takes advantage of the sloping site by letting a basement into the ground which introduces direct access to the beach from the games room and wet room. A simple palette of materials is used; natural slate, painted render and local stone to provide a plinth from which the rest of the house is built. It has good energy efficiency which comes from good insulation, ground source heat pump and photovoltaic panels all used to reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Windows are kept small where views and light are not a requirement, to reduce heat loss. 

The contractor was involved in the project from the planning design and contributed to construction details and specification decisions. This led to a greater understanding of the design principals, and a lot less last-minute detailing when a question arose on site. It also meant that the cost of specific details and technologies where known from the early days and not designed out because of budget constraints later in the project. This teamwork and collaboration benefits everyone including the client.
